McDonald Mrs. Thad McDonald entertain ed the Black Mountain Activities Club with a lawn party Tuesday night, June 22. The club voted to pack a box of clothes and send to some fami ly overseas, and they made preparations for their chicken barbecue to be given in honor of their husbands, Wednesday, June 30, at the Honeycutt’s home. After all business had been taken care of, the group enjoyed delicious refreshments. Those present were Mrs. E. K. Brake, Mrs. Robert Free, Mrs. A. C. Garland. Mrs. E. H. Knight, Mrs. B. E. Nordhielm, Mrs. Ross Taylor, and the hostess. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. B. E. Nordhielm on July 13 at 8 p. m. The hostess will review Pearl Buck’s “Portrait of a Marriage.” MRS. KERLEE HOSTESS AT BRIDGE PARTY Mrs. H. A. Kerlee was hostess last Friday afternoon at her home, “Over Yonder,” to her bridge club and guests. High score for the club was won by Mrs. A. G. Cal lison, anil for the guests by Mrs. Jeter Riddle. Prize for low went to Miss Mary Hooker, and cut prize to Mrs. Frank Buckner. Other guests were Mrs. C. C. Godfrey, Mrs. J. L. Potter, Mrs. A. C. Leonard. Mrs. Elizebeth Din widdie, Mrs. Fred Wilson, Mrs. Dinsmore Crawford, Mrs. D. O. McDougle, Mrs. Pat Randolph, Mrs. L. C. Jumper, Miss Pat Adams, Mrs. F'annie Fitzgerald, and Miss Susan Hooker. Refreshments were served on the terrace. MARGARET SUMMEY CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY The Rev. and Mrs. Mack Summey of Valdese were here Monday to help their daughter Margaret, who is a guest of her grandpar ents, celebrate her birthday. There to enjoy the birthday cake and ice cream and to watch Margaret open her gifts were: Mr. and Mrs. John McMillian, Mr. and Mrs. John Rice, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hummer, Mrs. Tom Summey and children, Beth and Gary, Hardy Owenby, Faye Rice, Phylis Bum —irdner of Kings Mountain, and Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Summey. SALLY SANDERS WEDS GEORGE BLANKENSHIP Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Sanders have announced the marriage of their daughter, Sally, to George Blankinship of Asheville, in Green ville, S. C., Saturday, June 19. Mrs. Blankinship was gradu ated from Black Mountain Higln school with the class of 1944 and more recently from the school of nursing at Misson hospital. She is now a member of the nursing staff at Biltmore hospital. Mr. Blank inship is employed in the freight department of the Southern Rail way in Asheville. RONDELS HAVE PICNIC SUPPER Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Rondel were hostesses Sunday evening at a picnic supper for guests Mrs. Sue Boren, Mrs. Flo Porter, and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Allen of Mi ami. The Allens have been at tending a conference at Ridge crest. Also present were Mrs. Margreth Barrick, Bob Rondel, Mrs. Hurrie Danenhower, and Jon Danenhower. JACK AND JERRY CROWLEY ENTERTAINED WITH PICNIC Bob Rondel entertained with a picnic supper in the yard honoring Jack and Jerry Crowley who are here from Miami. Other guests were Jack Hunter, Gene Hunter, and Jon Danenhower. After sup per they went to the movie. MATTHEWS ENTERTAIN WITH PICNIC SUPPER Mr. and Mrs. Aldus Matthews entertained with a picnic supper at their home last week. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Brown, Mr. and Mrs. C. Konrad, Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Griffeth, Judy Matthews, and Linda Matthews. AT IDLEWOOD COTTAGE Mrs. Denman Moody and chil dren, Teddy, Bebe, Henrietta, and Denman, Jr., of Houston, Tex., Mrs. John McCall of Nashville, Tenn., Mrs. Rod Gilliland and children, Gertrude and Robin of Ponta Vedra, Fla., are spending the summer at Idlewood cottage, Montreat.
